Corrective exercise is often treated as a separate category that must be completed before real training begins. Clients spend weeks repeating low-load activation or mobility drills while squats, hinges, pushes, pulls and carries remain permanently out of reach. The exercises may feel precise, but precision without progression can become a holding pattern.

A drill can improve awareness, provide a comfortable entry point or isolate a component of a larger task. Its purpose is not to create dependence on perfect preparation. Define What the Drill Is Correcting

A drill should have an observable purpose. “Activate the glutes” is less useful than “maintain pelvic position while extending the hip” because the second description connects directly to a task.

Tempo Can Connect Control to Strength

Use Support Strategically
External support can reduce balance demands and allow the intended muscles and joints to receive useful training. A hand-supported split squat, for example, may permit greater leg loading with less wobbling than an unsupported version.
Support is not a failure. It is a programming variable. Progress can occur by using less assistance, increasing load, expanding range or improving control at the same setup.
Removing support too early may make the exercise look harder while reducing the quality and amount of strength work completed.
Integrate the Drill With the Main Exercise
Corrective drills often work best when paired closely with the task they are meant to influence. A brief control drill can be followed by the relevant loaded pattern, allowing the client and coach to test transfer immediately.

The goal is to build confidence alongside capacity. Clients should understand why a modification is being used and what progress will allow them to do next.
